Publicity and ad hype provide a pervasive philosophical system that dominates thought and feelings for millions. Consumption, as an end in itself, becomes a substitute for democratic idealism. The freedom to choose what one wears, drives, or eats replaces meaningful social, economic, or political alternatives. Commercial hypes conceal much of what is corrupt, authoritarian, unjust, and cruelly exploitive. Such hype also muffles and distorts clear perceptions of the rest of the world.

-Wilson Bryan Key

Business succeeds rather better than the state in imposing its restraints upon individuals, because its imperatives are disguised as choices.

-Walton Hamilton

Voting with your wallet or check book
If for no other reason than sheer quantity. How often do you get to vote for president? Compare that to how often you get to fork out a fist-full of dead presidents.
