Send an email, save a life

Save Keith Henson from the clutches of the Church of Scientology.

I've been following this one for several years, so I'm faily certain that this is not a chain letter/memetic virus like the familiar requests to send postcards to children dying of cancer.

It's certainly a worthy cause, but I wonder whether emailing his MP is really going to help - especially having non-Canadians email his MP. Members of Parliament are really only authorised to act on the requests of people who live in their riding, which most of the people who will be emailing Mr. St. Amand about this issue are presumably not. I am baffled as to why he doesn't ask people to write to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration instead? Having said that, will send an email... at least I'm a Canadian voter, albeit one from outside his riding. Perhaps I'll copy my own MP, who is very highly connected and *is* authorised, indeed required, to respond to a request from a consituent.

probably couldn't hurt

A flood of email, regardless of where it comes from, will draw the MP's attention to this case. I think that's the intention; not necessarily to pursuade but to simply bring this one case in a pool of thousands to the attention of the relevant authority.

Thank you for taking action. Stay well.

Keith posted about this himself to the Church of Virus list, within the last couple days. He says Canadians should write to their own MP, and non-Canadians should write to his MP, who will pass on letters to the appropriate official.

Am I imagining things or was Keith vs. the Scientologists mentioned in Great Mambo Chicken?

In any case I'll put my voice towards his cause.
