Expectations: High

It's been a while (maybe twenty years) since I read the novel, but from what I remember of it, this looks like an extremely faithful adaptation.

Did you see the movie Waking Life? It's about a character who can't wake up from a dream, and near the end, he finds himself in a bar talking to a guy playing pinball. The guy playing pinball is Richard Linklater, the films writer and director. Richard tells the protagonist a story involving Philip K. Dick and an uncanny experience Dick had in his life which he learned that a novel he had written years earlier, Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said, bears a striking resemblance to the events described in the books of Acts.

My point here is that the man bringing A Scanner Darkly to the screen has a long-time love for the work of Philip K. Dick, and if you've seen Waking Life, you know that Linklater has no fear when it comes to packing a film so densely with intellectual content as make it unwatchable for a mainstream audience.

giving you hope
As I explained to amonynous, we have better reason than usual in this case to let the flame of hope burn.
