A World Without RAW

I just got the following from the Viking Youth:
RAW is in his final days and he only has enough money to pay next months
rent. It goes without saying that many of the beautiful and hillarious
things you enjoy in this world would not be without this man, so please
give him a gift of love and support so he can be well rested when it comes
time for him to go fuck with Jesus.

Here's a link to Rushkoff's plea and some info on how to paypal money or
purchase t-shirt's in support.

Thanks Bob, safe travels, save me a beer...

It boggles me that someone like Robert Anton Wilson could die broke.

I've heard Philip K. Dick described as "The best paid writer in Hollywood," even though he spent his career in poverty and obscurity. He may not have gone into the ground in an unmarked mass grave, but he certainly never saw financial rewards anywhere near to matching his recognized contribution to our culture.

Luckily, there is a happy ending to this story!

We RAW fans came out of the woodwork and donated enough that the very next day, Boing Boing posted this followup saying that Bob had received enough donations to cover the next month's rent plus more:

I count 36(!) published books on his wikipedia page. If the royalty checks can't cover rent then wtf?

wtf?
Most people in the United States who die broke had enough money put away when they hit retirement age, but they didn't have long term care insurance and they got to the point at which their spouse or family could not provide for all their needs and they needed to go into a nursing home or have professional care at home. You can easily spend $50,000 a year that way. More if you want good care.

How long till the Singularity? [Looks at wrist as if checking the time, even though not wearing a watch.]

Re: wtf?
Another update, this time from Bob's daughter- apparently over $68,000 came in over just a couple of days, looks like he is in the clear for the time being:
