TOTD 30 Aug 2001

Nothing, no experience, good or bad, no belief, no cause, is in itself momentous enough to monopolize the whole of life to the exclusion of laughter.

-Alfred North Whitehead

I will not waste my life in friction when it could be turned into momentum.

-Frances Willard

i always appreciate the thought of the day. it really does get me to thinkin.

i would like to have met buddha. he seemed like a fun guy to hang out with. an enjoyer of good food, and a good laugh. he didn't seem chained to work, or dogma, or anything else. life is too short for any of that. he simply seemed like someone who didn't believe his own bullshit. (buddhism in a nutshell i guess.)

Kill the Buddha
Hey Steffan,

Thanks for the feedback, both today and for all the feedback you've given me on the TOTD, the comic, and the infrequent LiveJournal rant or photo essay.

Do you get the TOTD by email as well? Now that I create an image for it everyday and embed links in the text, I'm struck by the realization that most people who read the TOTD on any given day read it as plain text in their email program.

Would today's TOTD have set you to thinking about Buddhism without the accompanying image?

At the same time, I'd hate to send out an html document everyday for fear that it would appear in people's inboxes with the tags showing, as so much email appears in my own inbox.

I only look at TOTD via livejournal, so i get the purty pitchers as well. Normally they are marginally related to the thought, which is the meat of the thing I guess. In this case though, the picture of buddha does tend to lead someone straight to buddhism, a bit hard to separate those two. I would not have connected the "thought" to buddhism otherwise... but then again, i can be a bit thick sometimes.
In any case, email with the HTML tags certainly is tacky. As an alternative, perhaps you could sent the email version as a text only link with an included hyperlink pointing to the image with a bit of a disclaimer, ala
"follow me to view the image of the day , which isn't necessary for your full enjoyment of the TOTD, but does help illustrate it a bit."
