Carol Sent me a bio to read on the show, but time constraints did not allow it.
Bio: Carol grew up at the Jersey Shore, and had no farming experience. She moved to Colorado for a ski adventure in 1979, and met her husband, singer/songwriter and photographer Ken Woodard. She and Ken found kindred souls in each other, and quickly bought a couple of horses, rabbits, ducks, geese, chickens, and an orphan calf, beginning a decades-long exploration in farming. From 1989 through 1997, they lived in Minnesota, where they farmed commercially, milking cows, and raising beef, lamb and pork on pasture for direct market to consumers. But today, Carol and Ken again live about 75 miles west of Colorado Springs in the mountains with a menagerie, a garden, and a solar-system for power. Carol is the author of four books on small-scale agriculture, including Small-Scale Livestock Farming, Storey’s Guide to Raising Sheep, How To Build Animal Housing, and Hobby Farm: Live Your Rural Dream. Her next book, Storey’s Illustrated Guide to Poultry, is slated to come out next spring. She also writes for a variety of magazines.
