I'd like to get your input

The Dopefiend, the host of the Dopecast and head honcho at the Cannibus Podcast Network has invited me to move the C-Realm Podcast over to the Dopefiend.co.uk podcast network. The content of the show (which is only about 1/3 centered on issues of drug policy and psychedelic consciousness) would not change. I could still post it to my PodOmatic site, so people subscribed to the show at present would still be able to find it in the usual place.

The benefit: Big and immediate jump in the number of people listening.

The potential downside: Explicit association with the Cannibus Podcast Network and skewing of audience composition in the direction of drug-related interests.

I've stated in previous podcasts that the Dopecast served as an inspiration to get into podcasting and that I've modeled the C-Realm Podcast after the Dopecast in some respects.

I think that generally speaking, a lot of the people looking into drug topics online are probably roughly the same sort who'd be looking for philosophy/socio-politics/thought/etc. They're both topics quite absent from the mainstream media and so often go hand-in-hand, at least in my interwebz experience. Of course there'll be the random reefer-addled lads spouting nonsense in the face of sheer thought, but again that's the internet for you, it takes all kinds.

Thanks for reply
...there'll be the random reefer-addled lads spouting nonsense in the face of sheer thought...

I love that turn of phrase.

Stay well.

I'm assuming that the downsides are material from your point of view. I'd be closer to 7 otherwise.

The audience skewing wouldn't bother me, but my offhand experience in brand design (several of my clients specialize in marketing one way or another) is that associations are more important than they look.

associations
The only potential downside for me involves associations. "Drugs" per se, is not my central focus, nor do I particularly want my public persona to carry a primary association with marijuana. I've got nothing against marijuana, and I'm certainly no stranger to it, but I do not support efforts to "normalize" and legalize marijuana by itself.

Call it an instance of ideological inflexibility, but despite the obvious pragmatic benefits that society would enjoy should marijuana advocates succeed in forging a seperate peace for themselves and leaving those who use other prohibited substances to twist in the wind, I won't give that agenda my stamp of approval.

Re: associations
Understood. I've spent some time thinking about this myself, and find the precedents very frustrating. (While I do not anticipate having much use for prohibited substances even after legalization, the legal issues are connotationally related to what I have to do to stay off of Social Security's OASDI. Most people would not intentionally ravage their body neurologically, or intentionally induce migraine-like headaches, in order to work.)

The practical issue in political activism is that the nearest-analog in the current regulatory system are the major tranquilizers, which are Category II in the U.S. scale. To be effective, the upgrade in legality needs to be to at least over-the-counter, if not unrestricted.

Even then, reasonably safe manufacturing processes can be required.

I vote a 3. The main reason being that while I listen to your stuff when I get a chance, my boyfriend listens to you religiously and is really interested in what YOU have to say, and I think if you partnered up with someone else, like the Dopecast, what you have to say might be clouded over by other things. Do what's right for you by all means, but just know that you have fans here in Oklahoma City who like things just the way they are!
