C-Realm Podcast #82

"C" stands for consciousness

Episode 82: American Bardo

In this episode, KMO welcomes Techgnosis author Erik Davis back to the program to discuss the idea of the Bardo and consider possible ways to make the most of it. In the second half of the program, after a few excerpts from a talk by Terence McKenna to set the stage, KMO and Erik Davis dig into the question of whether there's any purpose behind the human enterprise and whether that purpose could possibly be worth the obvious harm that it is causing to Mother Earth.

Daniel Quinn
I read his essay, "The New Renaissance," and I read the excerpts of his book If They Give You Lined Paper, Write Sideways which can be read for free on-line. These days, it's all I can do to read the books of the people I'm scheduled to interview, so I don't have any plans to read any of Quinn's books. Also, money is very tight in the world of KMO. That's another reason to confine my book-reading to the ones that publishers and publicists send me.

Re: Daniel Quinn
Well, I was reading and finding it very engaging, and then everything comes to an abrupt end on page 40. It looks like all of the sentences in the rest of the book are printed on one line at the top of page forty, and the rest of the pages are blank. :(

I checked my local library. Of course they don't have it. The Fayetteville library has a copy, but I'd have to drive nearly 80 miles to go get it and then return it. (No, they don't do inter-library loan around here.) And I called the local Barnes & Noble, and of course they don't have it either. I've called them about ten times to see if I could get a book by someone I was going to be interviewing soon, and not once have they had the book in stock. They always offer to order it for me, but what use is that? If I'm willing to wait that long I might as well have it delivered to my door and save myself a drive into town.

So, anyway, I'll be ordering it from Amazon and I'll resume my reading in a week to ten days.
