I suspect you meant posting this as cute, but what if we substitute Giraffe and Elephant for Bitsy and Claire, and ice cream for, say, crack or meth? The for-profit "petting zoo" works fine, but without the zoo.

I'm not trying to be morbid. Petting zoos have always struck me as exploitation: What of the animals that didn't want to be petted? Do they get to eat?

Some Guy Named Paul
I suspect you meant posting this as cute...

Yes. And because sgnp (AKA Paul Gude) is a long time friend whose creativity I've admired for many years. The web comic strip that eventually culminated in the book Giraffes and Elephants Are Friends was originally published on my web site, and I'm thrilled to see how Paul has made the transition to animation using extreme minimalism while investing the characters and the production with amazing vitality and life.

What of the animals that didn't want to be petted? Do they get to eat?

Sure. Grass and leaves and such. But not ice cream. Ice cream costs money.

Re: Some Guy Named Paul
In my experience, ice cream is exactly like crack or meth as far as giraffes and elephants are concerned, so the analogy is completely valid.

Giraffe and Elephant have a problem.

Awakening From The Nightmare Of Zoos

I enjoyed this excerpt from Derrick Jensens book.
I know that video has a deeper meaning, but I can't figure out what it really is.

KMO, funny hearing you talk about how the kids would be whining for overpriced ice cream when the truck went by the other day.
Our ice cream man has dime bags... probably increases his ice cream sales in the end.
