I can’t conscientiously agree with that statement KMO;)
Maybe they don't talk to researchers on the phone.
Perhaps they are suspicious of that creeping neurosis.
Where's the category for "Shy People?"
Is this a study in progress?

By asking these questions you've already dug deeper into this than I have. Dr. J posted this to the Trans-Spirit list along with the following explanation:

have no idea how this map was generated, but it’s a pretty cool idea. These are the Big Five personality dimensions from psychology, and presumably the regions of the country in which people test the highest on each dimension. - According to this I grew up in a high neurosis areas, lived in a hotbed of extroversion in grad school, and now live among neurotic people who are open to new experiences. J.

And closer inspection of the map does show a touch of neurosis in NWA.

it's very curious that DC seems to be on the edge of or passed over in each of these maps... Almost open to experience, on the brink of neurotic, nearly agreeable, almost conscientious...

This map appears quite ignorant of population densities. Based on this, no one lives in Nevada, Wyoming or Colorado at all.

Spending most of my time past decade in San Diego and Austin, i can sure attest to the openness toward experience therein.
