145: Pushing Chaos into the Future

KMO concludes his C-Realm conference call with Charles Eisenstein, author of The Ascent of Humanity: Civilization and the Human Sense of Self. Are exponential advances in technology providing diminishing returns? What new economic system might follow the demise of our currently over-built and tottering ediface? Charles Eisenstein explains what he means when he says that we are facing "a revolution in human beingness."

I was going to say something about your "abiotic oil" commentator, but my comment got lost in the recesses of my mind.

Dimitri misses what is, IMO, one of the most obvious objections to "abiotic oil" theory. Where are all the oil swamps? If oil was being produced continuously by non-biological processes at non-geological rates for millions of years, the planet would be swimming in the stuff.

Even if such a process exists (and Dimitri's right, it's wildly implausible), it would be more of an interesting phenomenon for chemists than a source of usable energy.
