Big Slide by James Howard Kunstler

Episode 79 of the Kunstlercast presents a staged reading of the first act of "Big Slide," an original three-act play by James Howard Kunstler. Set in the autumn of an unspecified near-future year, at an Adirondack "great camp," this is the story of three generations of the Freeman family who have taken refuge from New York and Boston during a severe national political maelstrom. Though we are never fully apprised of the exact nature of this event, it appears that a coup d'etat has occurred in the White House and local militias have risen up all over the nation in response. The estate at Big Slide is isolated from these events, but the electricity has stopped working and, apparently, the law enforcement has, too.

If you listen to Act One and like what you hear, I would encourage you to return to this page and follow the link below to buy the ebook of the full play. A portion of your purchase will go to help support the C-Realm Podcast.

Rants
Well, this is a play, and JHK is not character in the play. You can listen to a very good staged reading of Act One by a cast of actors in the episode of the Kunstlercast that I linked to in the original post.

There is one character who rants about how the US had it coming, and it is a very recognizable Kunstleresque rant, but ironically he puts that rant into the mouth of an anti-Semite. (JHK gets a lot of anti-Semitic hate mail.)

I figured I'd put this link here in a JHK related post. I just saw this article referenced at Chris Martenson's site.

http://www.thetimesherald.com/article/20100202/NEWS05/100202009/1002/news01/Michigan+continues+turning+paved+roads+to+gravel

Apparently Michigan is tearing up certain paved roads and replacing them with gravel because the maintenance for paved roads is too expensive for them to afford.

Random Connection
As regards a coup in the White House, here's a strange article from 1992 about a hypothetical military coup in 2012, which was written by a now 2-star general.

http://www.uwec.edu/sfpj/Origins.pdf.

I linked because that's twice today to come across this idea.

Cheers!
