Ah, Facebook, my love

So, instead of just hitting "ignore" on the Facebook friend requests that come without any accompanying explanation I thought I would reply to each of them with a link to my recent post in which I explained my ad hoc Facebook friend request policy.

http://kmo.livejournal.com/450366.html

I'd sent the url to about 5 of the 18 people who recently requested that I add them as friends but sent me no information on which to base my decision to either accept or ignore the request when Facebook hit me with this:

Yes, I'm sending a url to multiple people using the Facebook messaging system, but each of those messages is in response to a friend request sent to me. Obviously, if I'm replying to a message then I'm not spamming people. For me, Facebook is like iTunes in that I would have absolutely nothing to do with it were it not for the fact that everybody and his dog has an account and expects to be able to find me there.

Sigh.

I agree. It's a poor system - millions of people playing games and trying to express themselves in 420 characters or less - and being involved is simply a function of other people being involved.

A poor system serving an extremely useful set of functions. Hopefully one day (soon) it will be replaced by something more usable.
