TOTD 15 Feb 2002

Maturity begins when we're content to feel we're right about something without feeling the necessity to prove someone else wrong.

-Sydney J. Harris

The belief that there is only one truth and that oneself is in possession of it seems to me the deepest root of all evil that is in the world.

-Max Born

Kudos to anyone who can identify the two white guys in the banner graphic.

I can *so* relate to the first quote ... I got to this point about a year ago when I turned 40. It is such a relief to get there - it took so much stress out of my life.

Sorry, I have no idea who the white guys are ... in fact I don't recognise anyone in the banner. Sorry : )

White Guy On Left looks like Pat Robertson.

I don't know White Guy In Middle.

Black Guy On Right looks like David Alan Grier, but I'm not certain.

Famous White Ideologues
Yes. The white guy on the left is Pat Robertson. To the best of my knowlege, only the two white guys enjoy any measure of celebrity. I chose the images of the black man, the woman and the child for their facial expressions alone.

Here's a clue to the identity of the central figure.

Re: Famous White Ideologues
The middle guy is Paul Kurtz, Chairman of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims Of the Paranormal. He's also on the editorial board of the committee's magazine, Skeptical Inquirer, to which I've been a subscriber for about a year now. The committee has a Web site. He's also professor emeritus of philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He's basically a really busy guy!

KMO, did you know I've had an entry of yours linked on my bio page for the last several months? I use it to help introduce LJ to my Web site's new visitors.

I also think he resembles the third Doctor.

Indeed he is. Kudos to you, Jacob.

No, I didn't. Thank you for directing people to it, and thank you for letting me know. I had totally forgotten about that entry. It's a strange feeling when words that I wrote and then forgot come back to me. (I suspect you've had that experience.) Sometimes they're words I wish I'd put more thought into or hadn't written at all, e.g. words written in anger or in an ideological haze. I'm glad that wasn't the case this time.

I looked at your website and found it very stylish in its execution and impressive in its content. I'm glad to know of your existence, Jacob.

You promised Kudos! Jacob got Kudos! All I got was, "Yes."

I wuz robbed.

I got the shaft.

The end of the stick given unto me was definitely the shorter of the two.

I demand a recount!

If you're not going to strip Jacob of his "Kudo," then at least also give me one! I promise to cry and be grateful and everything!

Wow! Omigod! Wow!

Well... I guess, first of all, ... uh... yes, first, I'd like to thank kmo and crealm for this great honor. You didn't have to recognize me, but you did. You like me. You really, really like me. THANK YOU!

Second of all... uhhh... hoo-boy... kinda nervous up here... glad I wrote this down beforehand... okay, second of all, I'd obviously like to thank contemplating. Sweetheart, you are my best friend, my confidant, my partner, my wife, the wind beneath my wings. I couldn't have done it without you, baby. THANK YOU!

Also... uh... yeah... they're telling me to get off of the stage now... so I better hurry this up... uh... so also, I just wanted to thank all of my friends for all they have given to me. There's too many of them to name them all here, but folks, you know who you are (and if you don't, just click the link and read your journal... you'll probably like it), and please rest assured, you are all uniquely precious to me, and I wouldn't be who I am today without you. THANK YOU!

Okay... I guess that's it... gotta go get interviewed.

Share the love, everybody! Increase the peace! Commit random acts of kindness!

And finally, be sure to stay within yourself, unless you just feel the need to bust on out, in which case, yes, definitely do that!

I believe this is the nicest thing that can be said about someone. Thank you very much! And yes, I have experienced words coming back to me, and fortunately it hasn't been a bad thing. Yet!

Thanks for the kudos. Very tastey.

- Jacob
