Skepticism is the chastity of the intellect, and it is shameful to surrender it too soon to the first comer.

-George Santayana

There are two ways to slide easily through life: to believe everything or to doubt everything. Both ways save us from thinking.

-Alfred Korzybski

LOL
Interesting quotes.

I especially like the second one. However, I think that belief and doubt do require work to be maintained, even if it is only the energy it takes to prevent new ideas from entering the mind.

I don't believe that skepticism is the chastity of the intellect, unless you consider how vows of chastity have affected the priesthood. Denial isn't pureness of thought. I do think that there are good rationales for not believing anyone at face value... but it does injure our ability to trust to doubt everyone reflexively.

Total genius. Two of my all-time favorite quotes.
