As soon as our basic needs are satisfied, as soon as we've gone beyond survival, we're off and running. (...) At our best, we remain all our lives child-like adults, ready at the slightest excuse to indulge in mature play. To many people, our greatest achievements are to be found in the realms of such pursuits as technology, medicine, politics and economics. But to me, these are merely means to one of two ends; either better human survival or better adult play. If ever we give this up and all become depressingly earnest, pious, adult adults, we'll have betrayed our great biological heritage as the most exuberant, most mischievously imaginative animal on this planet.

-Desmond Morris

I would hate to be taken seriously. Serious people are always so grim and uptight that they make me want to dance naked on the lawn playing a flute.

Woohoo!
I've always taken as a task in life to make up for -all- the greyfaces in the world.
I can't play the flute, would a humanatone (nose-whistle) be okay?

RAW Lives!
Check out his website.

I doubt he'd take the job, but if he did, he'd certainly have my vote too.

Re: RAW Lives!
i certainly wish he would update his site more often. or do anything more often. maybe he's burnt out. then again, all his books are basically the same anyway. i don't know.

i think he might take the job. he's certainly not reactionary enough to oppose it on some godforsaken "moral" grounds. have you ever read schrodinger's cat trilogy? the second or third book or whatever has that crazy space-station building scientist president. i think he would be like that. it would be very interesting, to say the least.

but then, i don't think anyone will offer him the job.

Re: RAW Lives!
I think RAW mainly butters his bread with live speaking engagements these days. He's buds with Richard Bandler, and for a while he was doing a lot of guest spots at NLP conferences. In terms of financial return on invested effort, I suspect that speaking engagements pay much better than writing books.

I haven't read the Schrodinger's Cat trilogy. I got about half-way thru the Illuminatus books and decided I'd stick to RAW's non-fiction. And yeah, I wish he post new stuff to his web site more often. Still, I know how easy it is to let the productivity habit slip, so I'll cast no stones.

this explains someone I know who adores robert anton wilson perfectly.
and I think desmond morris should realize that being responsible and compassionate is not synonymous with being boring. in this society especially, it is far more dangerous and unique and even creative to be those things than to be childish and selfish.
