Birthday Wishes

Several folks have contacted me via Skype today to wish me a happy birthday. kaosangre reached out by phone and happen to catch me in a slightly morose moment. Sorry about that. And C-Realm listener and contributor Stephen B. sent me this ecard:

Happy Birthday!

Hopefully your day was relaxing and spent in the company of friends.

Totally switching gears: would you be interested in doing a C-Realm episode for Scientology and Anonymous? I think that definitely fits within the "individual conscious autonomy" plank of your agenda. Skeptics Guide to the Universe just did a show on the Co$, but it was marred by their ignorance. I'm hoping to find a more spiritually-themed podcast to explore the topic more lucidly.

If this is a topic that you'd consider, I could round up Anonymous for you to interview...?

Hopefully your day was relaxing and spent in the company of friends.

Alas, my nomadic existence leaves my group of good friends scattered across the globe. The closest (geographically) is in Eureka Springs which is about a 90 minute drive from here. I was thinking of heading over that way for the Earth Day parade, but it seemed a little incongruous to spend 3 hours on the road and burn a half tank of gas to celebrate Earth Day.

No, it was pretty much a total non-event spent looking after my kids. It's pretty ironic. I'm looking to situate myself in physical community with people I care about and with whom I can cooperate in hard times, and yet I live in the exact suburban social isolation that I find so distasteful and dysfunctional.

On the Scientology front, I haven't taken an active role in looking into that organization in over a decade (not since the Keith Henson affair). The Viking Youth have done a couple of programs on it. Is anonymous a particular person? I don't have a very clear conception of what you're proposing.

I think you probably aren't alone in the struggle to find exceptional friends within close proximity, and spending the day with the family seems like a peachy b-day to me. ;)

For the basics of Anonymous, you might see here. As to the Co$, you could check this tag for a few random jabs. For a more thorough coverage of Anonymous's efforts, try here.

There are lots of points to take issue with, but I think the fundamental aspect that may make it relevant for C-Realm listeners is the Co$'s insistence on ideologic slavery, glossed over with scientific jargon and self-help religiosity. I'm definitely behind Anonymous, so I'm a bit biased, but I think if you do a bit of research you'll come to empathize.

I haven't blown you offer or discounted your offer. I'm doing my homework on this topic now, and if you can arrange a phone interview with Anonymous, I'll certainly take you up on the offer.

Re: Anonymous

I'll be in contact with Anonymous this weekend, so I can get to work on it. I could arrange for you to have a single Anon contact, possibly non-local, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the situation; but I could also gather a group of local Anon, and we could work out a conference call, if that's the way you want to handle it.

Basically, would you rather interview a single person or a group of no more than 3? I know group interviews can get hairy, but it also seems more typically 'Anonymous'. The movement is working precisely because it isn't oriented around powerful leaders.

Re: Anonymous
If speaking to a group, I'd want to have them all around a single speaker phone or on separate extensions at a single phone number.
