GoodReads Spam from KMO

Here's a paragraph I just pulled from an email I just sent to David Marusek:
I inadvertently spammed every one of my gmail contacts with an invitation to join GoodReads, a service by which people share book recommendations. That mass mailing included you, though I wasn't conscious of including you in particular amid the 900 and some odd people who got that message. I thought GoodReads was going to look for people in my gmail contact list who were ALREADY GoodReads members and extend my friend request to that subset of my gmail contacts.

I'll be cutting and pasting that paragraph into quite a few emails in the coming days.

Actually, I had been unaware of “Goodreads” and was happy to join after your accidental spam lol.

I’ve now posted 5 or so book reviews and am enjoying myself quite a lot. So, although it certainly wasn’t your intention, I wanted to say thanks ☺.

I didn't mind getting that e-mail, just hadn't planned on participating since most books I'm reading right now are university library books for my research. Thanks for the clarification anyway though. :)

Hi KMO, All,

I have a big problem with this kind of 'marketing technique'. I never give my Gmail password to any 3rd party service for exactly this reason.

If you want to try a social book cataloging community, then the best one I know of is LibaryThing.com.

My profile is here: http://www.librarything.com/profile/dna

And I would love you all be my friend on it. I can think of few better ways of finding common interests than to look at the bookshelves of people.

Membership of http://LibraryThing.com/ is free. It's the grandaddy of bookworm sites and actually has lots of real data. You might want to try Delicious library and BookMooch also, but you won't find my profile on those ones. FWIW, I will be deleting my GoodRead account also.

I was just seeing how many different ways I could be KMO's friend for when he gets rich and famous, so I joined goodreads. So far I am up to TWO.:)

ha, that's funny. I WAS already a member, so I just said sure. To echo a previous commenter, I've also heard that "LibraryThing" is worthy, but most of my friends who care abbout, well, reading, are on GoodReads, while only a few are on LT.

You mean you weren't trying to bond with me over books? Well it was a nice thought while it lasted. To think my heart was a-flutter over spam... :)
