153: The Kunstler Konspiracy

KMO ventures into the Kunstler Kave with two C-Realm listeners to engage James Howard Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency: Surviving the End of Oil, Climate Change, and Other Converging Catastrophes of the Twenty-First Century and Scooter the cat in a conversation on the topic of conspiracy, paranoid thinking, and the undeniable fact that humans at all levels of society do, in fact, collude with one another to advance their own interests and agendas. Other topics include the Obama administration's response to the ongoing financial meltdown, the impossibility of continuing to live on debt, and the maladaptive American penchant for grandiosity that distorts workable responses to challenging times into quixotic fantasies doomed to failure.

You mention enjoying The Day After Tomorrow. Have you ever read the book that's based on? The book is mostly speculative nonfiction, although it's interspersed with little bits of speculative fiction describing events in the build-up to and aftermath of such an event. The movie took that small part of the book and expanded it into a full-length feature, but I found the nonfiction part of the book much more interesting.

I usually like the people you interview, but Kunstler, in this particular podcast, disgusted me.

I have followed the work of people like Alex Jones and G. Edward Griffin for a long time and compared to them, Kunstler's arguments are weak and incredibly asinine.

You are probably familiar with Jones and others, but if you want to do further research, an excellent resource is the site dprogram.net

I just want to point out that, in spite of all he gets right, Kunstler believes...

...that a local and asymmetrical collapse can propagate across a robust and cross-braced structural core to become a total, symmetrical, and essentially free-fall speed collapse (in the path of most resistance!)...

...that jet fuel and hydro-carbon office fires can cause concrete floors to completely and instantly pulverize

...that jet fuel, which does not burn hot enough to melt steel, can cause molten iron (as found in the debris pile at the WTC site for weeks after 9-11-01)

How can someone who can see into so much of what's taken for granted and provide such insight and clarity... at the same time accept such total horseshit?
