170: Oh Nine Oh Nine Oh Nine

In this year's 9/11 extravaganza KMO welcomes Doug Lain, author, editor, and fellow podcaster, to the program to help make sense of some 9/11 themed commentary from James Howard Kunstler, John Horgan, Gwynne Dyer, and (indirectly) Douglas Rushkoff. Doug & KMO then continue the conversation in episode 22 of the Diet Soap Podcast. Lorenzo Hagerty of the Psychedelic Salon adds his perspective on attitudes surrounding 9/11 to the C-Realm mix in a prelude to next week's show.

Douglas Rushkoff writes:

Yes, I believe that 9-11 theorizing debilitates the counterculture. It robs us of some potentially creative thinkers. It replaces truly important questions with trivial ones. It marginalizes more constructive investigation of American participation in the development of Al Qaeda as well as its subsequent aggravation. And perhaps worst of all, it is precisely the sort of activity that government disinformation specialists would want us to be involved with.

stupidculture posted the following to the PodOMatic entry for this episode:

As a long time fan of your podcast and someone who understands your ambivalence towards the topic yet is not afraid of pointing out the Naked Emperor at hand, I would HIGHLY recommend what activist Ken Jenkins has to say.

Please check out:
"Psychological Aspects Of 9-11"

He would be a great guest on a future show on the topic.

A more recent article by Ken Jenkins:
"The Truth is Not Enough: How to Overcome Emotional Barriers to 9/11 Truth"

And there are two threads on the C-Realm Forum on the Grow Report on the topic of 9/11 eight years after the fact:

Nine Oh Nine Oh Nine (#170)

911/ oil/ Iraq.

Wow. Cheers for posting that Rushkoff quotation! Whereas previously I thought he was somewhat intelligent if not a little naive, now I see him as thoroughly naive at best and willfully ignorant at worst. Either way, I no longer need worry about his views. Again, cheers!

Coward Kunstler
Stating "because I just don't believe it" etc. in the face of the facts of the WTC 1,2 and 7 collapses does not a counter-argument make. Referring to a story, which has been proven to be false, just because it comes from the government and the mainstream corporate media doesn't either.

Kuntsler's straw-man arguments and 2nd-grade level denial regarding 9/11 is beyond pathetic. Perhaps it’s his dysfunctional way of dealing with the fact that there are folks who try to dismiss his (very credible) analysis of the suburban status-quo with equal childishness.

The real slippery slope, the real credibility problem you, KMO, have with this topic does not come from associating yourself with those who point out the overwhelming evidence that 9-11 was an inside job....

Man, I am worn out. If I'm supposed to know what comes after the ellipse then you've over-estimated my inferential powers.

Re: Coward Kunstler
…I’d guide your inference in the following rant:
As you know, 9-11 is the justification for hundreds of thousands of deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan and the on-going slaughter of the illegal "war on terror," as well as the shredding of the constitution in a war on dissent here at home. Furthering the exposure of the blatant, proven lies of 9-11 is the only responsible/moral thing to do if you've allowed yourself to admit the emperor’s nudity. I'm sure it was a real avoidance-provoking drag for some "good Germans" to confront the status quo in Germany in the 30s. Most of your listeners, I would wager, can see the naked emperor of 9/11 as they do with all sorts of "hot topics" discussed on your podcast. I think you owe yourself and your audiance a better show on this topic. There are plenty of 9-11 truth folks who aren’t stereotypical loathed “conspiracy theory fanatic nut-jobs” who have a lot of credible things to say about this issue (and issues about this issue) who would willingly participate. Giving the folks featured on episode 170 a platform is unfortunate and not what I expected from the c-realm.

As a recovering Protestant and a true fan of you and your show, confrontation like this is very unpleasant for me. Hence I hid in my ellipse. Sorry.
