186: 2009 Wrap Up

In this final installment of the C-Realm Podcast for 2009, Doug Lain, host of the Diet Soap Podcast, joins KMO to revisit 2009 C-Realm interviews with Jeff Vail, Thomas Homer-Dixon, Joe Bageant, and Frank Rotering. Can inferences about the economy and social relationships legitimately be drawn from observations about the cyclical behavior of a forest ecosystem, or does this sort of comparison lend legitimacy to unjust power relationships? Can a recovering Libertarian and a wavering Marxist even hear one another through the ideological noise? Take heart.

Your final comments
Hey KMO,

I was really moved by your ending monologue. It sounds like you are heading for a significant amount of change in your life. We're all pulling for you and know that you'll bounce back just fine and be the better for it. As Michael Pollan pointed out in Omnivores dilemma, an animal's (chicken for instance) "happiness" is achieved by allowing it to express its "chicken-ness." I can imagine that your circumstances in MD were not very conducive to allowing you to express your "KMO-ness." I was very encouraged to hear that you are making some changes. Change doesn't come easy though, but I know you've got the fortitude to make it through and come out better than before. I hope you can bring chickens back into your life as well. They've made me a different man in the 6 months I've had them.

Keep us all updated as things unfold and let us know if you have any needs that we can help with.

Happy New Year! (Only two more left, right?) ;) LOL
